Pharmacology is taught to the M.B.B.S. students in the Phase II of their medical studies i.e. after completion of ONE year from their admission, when they are equipped with knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology & Bio- Chemistry. It is a major subject & includes rigorous teaching & training for 11/2 year. Pharmacology is the science that deals with detailed study of drugs. It is made up of two Greek words ‘Pharmacon’ (meaning an active principle or drug) and ‘Logos’ (meaning a discourse or study). It is both a basic & an applied Science and forms the backbone of rational therapeutics. Medical Pharmacology thus includes fundamental background and clinical information. Correct & skillful prescribing of drugs is impossible without proper understanding of this subject because it requires insight into the mechanism of action of drugs, relationship between plasma concentration & intensity of therapeutic /toxic actions, incidence of adverse effects & their management, efficacy of different medications. The clinical importance and the social bearing of the subject can be reckoned by appreciating the multifarious diversification of the subject e.g. pharmacovigilance, pharmaco-epidemiology, pharmacoeconomics, pharmacogenetics, pharmacogenomics.
Pathology is the scientific study of disease and its effect. It’s a bridge between the basic science & clinical practice. The management of patients is based upon precise lab diagnosis of fluids & tissue sample. The role of accurate laboratory data in today’s field of health care needs no emphasis. The department of pathology at SIMS maintaining high standards of undergraduate teaching and laboratory medicine and its contribution to the patient health care and medical science since the inception of the institute in 2008.
The department of pathology has been functioning since Jan 2008 under Ch. Chran Singh University, Meerut, is presently approved by Medical Council of India. The Department is one of the largest in all medical departments.
